Alfred Wehmeyer (21 May 1919 – 1 June 1942) was a German Luftwaffe ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Alfred Wehmeyer was credited with 18 aerial victories, all against Western forces. His Messerschmitt Bf 110 was shotdown by British antiaircraft fire near Tobruk, Libya on 1 June 1942.
